Breast Lift in Houston

Our board-certified plastic surgeons perform breast lifts, also known as mastopexy, to elevate the breasts and restore a more aesthetically pleasing shape and position for the breasts, nipples, and areolas. Patients typically seek the procedure to correct changes due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.

Your Breast Lift Procedure

During a breast lift, our board-certified plastic surgeons begin by making incisions on the breasts. There are typically three options for incisions:

  • Periareolar (Donut) – A circular incision around the areola to address mild sagging and reshape the breast.
  • Vertical (Lollipop) – A circular incision around the areola with a vertical incision down to the breast crease for moderate lifting.
  • Anchor – A circular incision around the areola, a vertical incision down to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision along the crease for significant reshaping.

After making the incisions, your surgeon removes excess skin and tightens the surrounding tissue to raise the nipples and breast mounds. This improves the overall shape and contour of the breasts and nipples/areolas. The incisions are carefully closed, and a protective dressing is placed over them.

Depending on your body and desired outcome, your surgeon may use other techniques to enhance your results. If it is part of your surgical plan, your surgeon may also remove some of the breast tissue to make the breasts smaller and more proportional with a breast reduction. Sometimes, they also reduce enlarged areolas for a more aesthetically pleasing outcome.

Recovery: What To Expect After a Breast Lift

The recovery process after a breast lift is a unique journey for every patient. Your ACPS surgeon provides detailed postoperative instructions to help you manage your comfort and accelerate healing. Here’s a general overview of what to expect:

Right After Surgery:

  • Return home on the day of surgery and prioritize rest and healing
  • Take pain medications as prescribed by your surgeon
  • Swelling, bruising, and tightness are all normal
  • Wear your surgical support bra 24/7 (except when showering) to reduce swelling and protect your newly shaped breasts

1 to 2 Weeks:

  • Sleep on your back or side for a few weeks
  • Continue wearing a soft, stretchy, sports-type bra
  • Return to work and nonstrenuous activities in about one week
  • Swelling and bruising should diminish significantly

4 to 6 weeks:

  • Limit physical exercise and strenuous activities for 4 to 6 weeks
  • Start wearing “regular” bras after 4 to 6 weeks
  • Swelling and bruising should be resolved; full results may take months
  • Scars continue to fade and flatten over time

Remember, everyone heals at a unique rate. It’s essential to be patient during healing and carefully follow your surgeon’s instructions to achieve optimal results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a breast lift safe?

Yes, a breast lift is generally considered a very safe procedure when performed by a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. Like any surgery, it does carry some rare but potential risks, including infection, poor wound healing, asymmetry, and changes in nipple sensation. You can minimize these risks by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon and closely adhering to your post-op protocol.

How long does a breast lift last?

The results of a breast lift usually last 10 to 15 years or longer, depending on factors like your skin quality, age, lifestyle, and overall health. Natural aging, gravity, and changes in weight or pregnancy can affect the longevity of your results.

Does your bra cup size change after a breast lift?

In some cases, it does. Due to the removal of excess tissue, it’s possible to lose a little breast volume after a breast lift. If you’re concerned about this, you may want to ask your surgeon about adding breast implants to your breast lift procedure.

What procedures can be combined with a breast lift?

A breast lift is often combined with other body contouring procedures to enhance overall results. Common combinations include breast augmentation with implants to add volume, breast reduction to reduce the size and weight of very large breasts. We also often combine breast lift surgery with liposuction or a tummy tuck as part of a comprehensive mommy makeover.

What are breast lift scars like?

After a breast lift, scars initially appear reddish and raised but eventually flatten and fade over 1 to 2 years. Over time, they become thin, barely perceptible lines. Our skilled breast lift doctors minimize and conceal breast lift incisions during surgery and recommend effective scar therapies and treatments for optimal, natural-looking results.
