Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Overview

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Overview

Rhinoplasty | Nose Job | Cosmetic Surgery | Houston | Katy TXRhinoplasty, commonly known as nose surgery or nose job, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to improve the shape, size, and appearance of the nose. The procedure may typically involve narrowing of nostrils, removal of a large nasal hump, sharpening of the nasal tip, or other aesthetic or functional improvements.
Experienced plastic surgeons at ACPS will employ computer imaging technique to help the patient determine the right size and shape of the nose in proportion to other facial features. The practice receives patients from Houston TX, and surrounding communities for rhinoplasty and other procedures.

Suitable Candidates

Plastic surgery for the nose may be performed on suitable female candidates in the age group of 15 and above, and in the case of males the minimum age should be 17 years. The surgeon will carefully evaluate the condition of the nose, the overall facial anatomy, previous facial surgeries if any, and the personal aesthetic needs and goals of the patient before determining the appropriate rhinoplasty approach.

Need for Rhinoplasty

The cosmetic surgeon may recommend rhinoplasty for one or more of the following purposes:

  • The size or width of the nose needs to be increased or reduced.
  • Improving the alignment of a crooked looking nose.
  • Restoration of the nose shape and appearance following an injury.
  • Removal of a depression or bump on the nose bridge.
  • Correcting the shape of flared, wide, or upturned nostrils.
  • Refining the nasal tip.

Patients in Houston TX, and nearby locations have an opportunity to receive advanced rhinoplasty procedure from the surgeons at ACPS.

Procedure

Rhinoplasty may be performed as an open or closed nose surgery, as per the case. In case of open rhinoplasty, the surgeon will place an incision in an inconspicuous position outside the nose. Closed rhinoplasty can be performed by making an incision within the nostrils, which will leave no visible scar on the outside. Through the incision, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat, or insert an implant, or perform other procedures as per the requirements of a case.
The procedure may be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. Depending on the specific aesthetic needs of a patient, the surgeon will apply one or more of the following techniques:
Cartilage Grafting
If the nose requires added support or build-up, the surgeon may decide to perform rib cartilage grafting procedure. The cartilage can serve as a biocompatible grafting material to create optimal nasal structure. In a case of ethnic rhinoplasty or nasal reconstruction, rib cartilage grafting may be employed.
Partial or Micro Rhinoplasty
This is a relatively less invasive technique, which may be adopted if only a minor improvement in the nasal structure is required, such as removal or reduction of a bump on the nasal bridge. The surgeon will use a micro saw to achieve highly precise outcomes.

Recovery

Most patients will be able to go back to work or resume their regular activities within a week to 10 days. Temporary nasal splints and cast will be removed at the end of the first week. Full results will establish over several weeks as the swelling and bruising disappears completely.
