Neck Lift vs. Neck Lipo

Even some relatively young patients prematurely age in the neck because of a laxity of the neck muscle and accumulation of fat in this area. Liposuction can often relieve the neck area of unwanted fat, but your doctor may combine liposuction with tightening of the neck muscle as well to give a longer lasting result.

For younger patients with healthy, elastic skin, neck lipo is a great option that allows the jawbone to show and creates an elegant neckline. If the skin does not need to be tightened, neck liposuction alone will give the desired result.

For patients with loose skin, a neck lift may be required in addition to neck lipo. The physicians at ACPS perform this procedure by making a tiny incision just under the chin or behind the earlobes. This allows them to trim excess skin and tighten the underlying muscle.

This outpatient procedure is called platysmaplasty and may be performed with either “twilight” or general anesthesia. Performed together, these procedures can dramatically reduce the signs of aging. Recovery times depend on the nature of the procedures performed. Stitches are removed in about one week, and any bruising or swelling will usually diminish within a month.
