Over $12 Billion Spent on Aesthetic Procedures in the US in 2014: ASAPS Report

Aesthetic Procedures | Surgical | Non Surgical | Houston | Katy TXSedentary lifestyles and other factors have resulted in many American men and women developing fat pockets in different areas of the body. Another common concern is the appearance of signs of aging on the face, which can occur due to several reasons. These conditions can be corrected with innovative and advanced fat reduction, body contouring and other cosmetic surgery as well as non-surgical procedures of the breast, body and face.
The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, led by a team of experienced plastic surgeons and other aesthetic experts, provides a wide range of cosmetic procedures. The practice receives patients from Houston TX, and nearby locations.

Popularity of Cosmetic Procedures

The demand for a variety of plastic surgery and non-surgical aesthetic treatments has been consistently on the rise over the last several years. This growth trend emerges from the latest annual multi-specialty data report released by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The report reveals that in 2014, the total amount of money spent by Americans on aesthetic procedures was in excess of $12 billion. A similar amount was spent also in 2013, reflecting a consistency of demand.
The ASAPS report reveals another interesting pattern about the rising popularity of men’s aesthetic procedures. The demand for men’s procedures has risen by as much as 43% over the last five years alone. In case of women, the biggest year on year jump in demand was recorded for procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons, including buttock augmentation (up by 89%) and labiaplasty (up by 49%).

Leading Aesthetic Surgery Procedures

In 2014, the top five aesthetic surgery procedures carried out on both women and men included the following:

  • Liposuction (342,494 procedures)
  • Breast Augmentation (286,694 procedures)
  • Eyelid Surgery (165,714 procedures)
  • Tummy Tuck (164,021 procedures)
  • Rhinoplasty (145,909 procedures)

Patients in Houston TX, and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive both surgical and non-surgical procedures at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery. Among surgeries, liposuction holds the top spot because of the relatively less invasive approach of the procedure and highly targeted results. Breast augmentation follows in the second position with a growing number of women choosing breast implants to enhance their overall appearance.

Leading Minimally Invasive Procedures

The top five non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures in 2014 included the following:

  • Botulinum Toxin (3,588,218 procedures)
  • Hyaluronic Acid Based Fillers (1,696,621 procedures)
  • Hair Removal (828,480 procedures)
  • Chemical Peel (484,053 procedures)
  • Microdermabrasion (417,034 procedures)

Botox and Dysport are two FDA approved injectable anti-aging treatments for the face, which have remained most popular for several years. Almost 3.6 million injectable procedures were performed in 2014. With nearly 1.7 million procedures, hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane occupied the second position on the list.

Procedures for Men

From 2010 to 2014, the rise in procedures for men was recorded as follows:
Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

  • Blepharoplasty (up 34%)
  • Male Breast Reduction (up 33%)
  • Facelift (up 44%)

Non-surgical Cosmetic Procedures

  • Botulinum Toxin (up 84%)
  • Hyaluronic Acid Based Fillers (up 94%)
  • Nonsurgical skin tightening (up 37%)
  • Intense Pulsed Light (up 44%)

The demand for both invasive and non-invasive aesthetic procedures is likely to grow in the years to come as surgical technologies improve further.
