Dr. Chaowen Wu says, “My goal as a plastic surgeon is to give people the confidence to revel in their own skin. It’s what I enjoy most about my work–being able to help people turn the time they used to spend preoccupied by what they may not like about themselves into time spent celebrating what they love.”
Under the supervision of ACPS surgeons, Dr. Wu conducts consultations with her patients, and she performs surgeries at the private ACPS Surgery Center, which is certified by the Texas Department of Health and the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF. This certification indicates the highest standards for equipment, operating room safety, staff and surgeon credentials, and sterilization are implemented.
An Interview with Dr. Wu
Q: Of all the plastic surgery fellowships in the nation, why did you choose the ACPS Fellowship program?
Dr. Wu: There was something special about the ACPS Fellowship program because everyone I met was genuinely happy, so I knew I wanted to be a part of it. The doctors were talented, warm and welcoming. I was especially drawn to their progressive and inclusive vision for the future of plastic surgery education and patient care.
Q: Please tell us a little about your background and what inspired you to become a plastic surgeon.
Dr. Wu: I spent my childhood in Canton, China. What I remember most has to be the food. Not only were the ingredients fresh and simple, but also purposeful and balanced. The end result was a plethora of tasty dishes to help with every ailment you can think of. I find it so gratifying when the right ingredients are brought together to form something beautiful. I’m very lucky that I get to do this as a plastic surgeon.
Q: What are some of your goals related to your work, and what do you most love about it?
Dr. Wu: Although surgery is my specialty, I also love obsessing about natural and non-invasive ways to improve wellness and beauty. Ultimately, I would like to learn everything I can about the human body so that I can more effectively work alongside it to achieve the best results for my patients.
Q: In your free time, what do you enjoy doing?
Dr. Wu: I love riding horses! But on a daily basis my favorite thing to do when I catch a break is to relax and enjoy a cup of milk tea.
Q: What is something interesting about you that people might be surprised to know?
Dr. Wu: I once went fly-fishing (no, that’s not the surprising part) and caught a huge clam. It actually bit the lure and its tongue :P.
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes and why?
Dr. Wu: “When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.” – Futurama
If you’ve seen this episode of Futurama then you know it’s quite hilarious. But at the same time, it’s also quite profound. This is one of my favorite quotes because it seems to apply to so many things, even my philosophy on plastic surgery. That is, when surgery is done right, results should be natural and seamless.
