Breast Lift Procedure Steps

Breast Lift Procedure Steps | Houston Plastic Surgery | Cosmetic SurgeryBreast lift currently ranks among the top five most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in the US. It can help restore tighter, perkier and younger looking breasts and enhance body contours. The breast lift procedure may marginally differ in each case, but for the most part, the steps involved in the procedure will remain common.
During the initial consultation, the breast surgeon will educate the patient about all aspects of breast lift and discuss the procedure steps. Board certified and majestic plastic surgeons at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) provide breast lift to patients in Houston, Texas, TX, and surrounding communities across the landscape.

Anesthesia

The surgeon may decide to perform breast lift surgery with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. At the time of pre-operative consultation, the surgeon will select the most appropriate option. Patient will be asleep throughout the surgery, and will have no consciousness about the procedure when she is brought out of anesthesia.

Placing the Incisions

The next step after anesthesia is the placement of incisions. The incision locations will be decided while preparing the customized breast lift plastic surgery plan. Although incision size and location can vary according to the breast lift technique chosen, but the surgeon will create incisions as discreetly as possible and take into account the patient’s personal incision preferences. Natural breast folds typically conceal the scarring after breast lift.

Lifting the Breasts

Through the incisions, the surgeon will reshape the sagging breast tissue to create firmer, natural looking breasts and will trim away excess skin. If the areolas are oversized, the surgeon will reshape the area and remove excess skin from the areolas. Downward pointing nipples and areolas may be shifted to a more youthful and raised position.
Once the reshaping and lifting of the breasts is accomplished, the surgeon will smoothly re-drape the overlying skin, bringing some of the tissue that was above the areolas down to the lower half of the breasts. Outstanding and committed cosmetic surgeons at the ACPS receive patients from Houston, Texas, TX, and other cities and towns in The Lone Star State for a breast lift.

Incision Closure

The keep the skin in its place and to retain the new, tighter shape of the breasts, the surgeon will place multiple sutures within the depths of the breast tissue. The surgeon may apply traditional sutures, which will have to be removed in a week or 10 days. Alternatively, dissolvable sutures may be used, which will be absorbed by the body in about the same time.

Compression Garment and Bandages

The surgeon will cover the incision sites in bandages after the surgery. In a few days, the patient will be required to wear a special surgical bra or a compression garment. This will help maintain the new shape of breasts and support healing. These garments will prevent the incisions from opening up and will minimize the patient’s discomfort.
Drain tubes may be placed under the skin in the incision sites to collect excess fluid. These tubes are usually removed along with sutures around the end of the first week.
