The majority of our patients seek a breast shape that appears natural, youthful, and well proportioned with the rest of the body. Most choose silicone-filled breast implants because they have a natural feel that is comparable to breast tissue. In addition, for patients who have a thinner build, silicone implants typically produce a more natural appearance than saline breast implants, particularly around the edges of the implants.

Despite the trend toward the use of silicone implants, many patients and surgeons prefer saline implants. In contrast to silicone breast implants, which are prefilled with a cohesive silicone gel, saline implants are filled with sterile saline water after being placed inside the breast pockets.

Some surgeons feel saline implants are advantageous because they require a smaller incision, and, since they are inflated after being placed inside the breast pocket, the volume can be adjusted accordingly to balance out any physical asymmetries between the breasts. However, this goal also is achievable with silicone implants. Frequently, ACPS surgeons use two diffent size silicone implants for a patient in order to harmonize the appearance of breasts that vary in size and shape.

As a result of improvements that have been made to breast impants, the newest generation of implants are not only more authentic in look and feel to natural breast tissue, but also more durable in their construction. While women appreciate the advances that have been made to improve the look and feel of implants, the greatest reward for most is the newfound satisfaction and confidence they feel when they see their reflection in the mirror.
