A Natural Looking Facelift: Dr. Patronella Explains the Details That Make a Difference

For many years, facial rejuvenation procedures focused primarily on restoring firmness to the skin and its sagging underlying tissues. However, what has come to light more recently is the importance that a deterioration in both facial bone and fat volume plays in creating an aged appearance.

In this article, Dr. Patronella describes the details that make the difference between natural-looking facial rejuvenation vs. an overly-pulled appearance that can sometimes be seen in those who've had a facelift. Read more...

Study: Skin Care Products Boost BOTOX® Cosmetic's Wrinkle-Reducing Benefits

Its ability to smooth out crows feet, forehead furrows, and the vertical creases between the brows have made BOTOX a wildly popular elixir for the weary looking lines that become etched in the face as we grow older. And now, a new study reveals a method to increase its rejuvenating benefits even more. According to the data, patients who received BOTOX treatments in conjunction with using skin care products tretinoin (Retin-A) and 4 percent hydroquinone experienced significantly greater diminishment in fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation compared to those who received BOTOX alone. Read more...

Dr. Henry Mentz of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (www.mybeautifulbody.com), one of the largest private plastic surgery practices in Texas, co-authored the study exploring a fringe procedure called pectoral etching. The study appears in December’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® (PRS), the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The study found that pectoral etching can be a viable option for men who want to feel more comfortable with their chest. The procedure includes targeted liposuction along the lower and outer edges of the chest muscles to create a noticeable contrast outlining the pectoral muscle. Thinning...

Ears (Repair/Otoplasty)

Surgery of the ear is a procedure to repair split ear lobes, reduce the signs of aging on the ears, correcting the shape of the ear and for bringing bulging ears closer to the head. Split earlobes usually occur as the result of the weight of heavy earrings on pierced ears or may be caused by trauma, such as an earring being pulled from the ear. The plastic surgeon can usually repair the earlobe in the office in about one hour using local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. The split is stitched together with special sutures to minimize scarring. The stitches are removed in about 4-5 days, and you may have the ear pierced again in about three weeks.

Children with “Dumbo” ears or ears that appear too far away from the head can have this procedure performed to surgically bring the ears closer to the head. The procedure called Otoplasty can correct the shape of the ear. This is an outpatient procedure performed on children as well as adults. Since ears are almost fully grown by the time a child is five years old, children can have the procedure performed at an early age. The newest techniques address two problems with the ears: the shell shape of the ear and the fold which can be sculpted or reshaped to create a more natural appearance.

Local or general anesthesia is administered during the one to three hour surgery and stitches can be removed in one week. Postoperative bandages are applied to the head following surgery. Children recover in about one week and adults usually return to work in about five days. Other reconstructive ear surgery applications are available such as operations performed on the earlobes and forming new ears when necessary.

Breast Implant Information

	Breast Implant Information

Women with small or underdeveloped breasts who wish to enhance their appearance may choose to have a procedure called breast augmentation mammoplasty.

A fuller body contour can be safely achieved through the placement of implants directly under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. In 1992, the Food and Drug Administration made silicone-filled breast implants unavailable for most breast surgery. Implants that are filled with saline or salt-water are now being used for breast augmentation procedures. Currently, researchers are investigating materials other than silicone and saline to use for implants, but these are not available to the general public at this time.

Your surgeon will suggest a saline or silicone implant size that fits your frame well and that helps you to achieve the look you desire.

Women have reported a high degree of satisfaction with these implants. The FDA provides detailed information on saline implants, however information is available through the board certified physicians at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery®. Small incisions are made so that the implant can be inserted. These small incisions may be made in the crease under the breast or under the nipple. The implant is then filled with saline to achieve the desired size and shape of the breast. The surgery can be performed as an outpatient under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

After your procedure, the physicians at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery® may offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist in your recovery. Most patients can return to work within 5-6 days following surgery. Sutures are removed in 7 to ten days and your surgeon may recommend a surgical support bra. Exercise and other strenuous activities may be resumed in about one month.

For more information contact the The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery® by calling Houston Local 713-799-9999

Breast Reduction

	Breast Reduction Cosmetic Surgery

The weight from very large breasts can cause a variety of problems including back and neck pain, skin irritation and breathing difficulty. Breast reduction is usually performed to correct a medical problem and may be covered by health insurance. The procedure removes fat, tissue, and excess skin from the breast, making the breast smaller, lighter, and firmer. The nipple is also repositioned in proportion to the new breast size.

It is recommended that the breast be fully developed before surgery is performed. However, if large breasts are causing serious problems, a surgeon may recommend this procedure for younger patients. Patients should keep in mind that breast reduction should be postponed for women planning to breast feed. Surgery takes about 3-5 hours under general anesthesia and recovery is about 7-10 days.

After your procedure the physicians at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery® may offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse, trained to assist in your recovery. For several weeks following surgery you will be wearing a support bra to reduce swelling and bruising.

After this time you will be able to select bras that enhance your new look. Most women can return to work in about two weeks but should avoid lifting or strenuous exercise for the next three to 4 weeks.

They are experienced in the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques to restore your face to a youthful more natural appearance. Four components are evaluated for facial rejuvenation: skin, fat, muscle and bone. A face lift, or Rhytidectomy, is a procedure for reversing the signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles and the reshaping or removal of skin on your face and neck. Incisions for a facelift usually begin hidden above the hairline at the temples, and extend in a natural line around the ear to the lower scalp. After removing excess fat and skin, and tightening the underlying muscles, the incisions are sutured. Your surgeon may suggest other procedures to maximize your appearance goals, such as laser resurfacing, chemical peels for surface...

Rhinoplasty or Nasal Reshaping is a Common Procedure Done by ACPS Surgeons in Houston, TX

The removal of a large nasal hump or the narrowing of the nostrils can improve the look and shape of your nose. This may be done in conjunction with other rhinoplasty procedures to create the desired appearance. Your surgeon will evaluate the structure of your nose and face and discuss in detail your appearance expectations. Facial balance is important to meet your aesthetic goals.

Computer imaging with ACPS will help you determine the size and shape of your nose. Factors that influence the final results include the structure of your nasal bones and cartilage, the shape of your face the thickness of your skin and your age. Cosmetic nose surgery may be performed on female patients as young as 15 or males as young as 17. However, your plastic surgeon will need to make this determination. Depending upon the procedures performed, a splint may be applied to the nose to help maintain its shape. Soft plastic splints may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the airway and are removed in 5-7 days.

Facial Aesthetic Surgery

The board certified plastic surgeons at the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery in Houston, Texas specialize in providing the most advanced facial rejuvenation procedures to restore a more youthful, refreshed look to the face. The Houston plastic surgeons at ACPS take a multi-dimensional approach to facial rejuvenation that allows them to comprehensively restore a more youthful look to the face. They do this by addressing all of the elements that contribute to an aged appearance: Sagging Skin and Tissues: As we age, our collagen production decreases, causing the skin to lose its firmness and elasticity. As a result of this factor and the effects of gravity, lines and wrinkles begin to develop and deepen throughout the face, and the skin and its underlying tissues begin to sag. The Solution: Facial procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, browlift (forehead lift), and necklift correct the sagging that leads to an aged and fatiqued appearance Our surgeons...
