Biographical Information:
Dr Amado Ruiz-Razura is a native of Guadalajara, Jalisco-Mexico. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctor degree from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He served as a fellow in the Division of Neurological Surgery and as a general surgery resident at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston.
He completed his plastic surgery residency training at the "Dr Jose Guerrerosantos" Institute of Plastic Surgery of the University of Guadalajara. He continued his training at the Institute of Reconstructive Surgery of New York University and served as a microsurgical fellow of the Cronin, Brauer & Biggs Clinic Association and the Plastic Surgery Service at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. In 1986 he was appointed Assistant Medical Director of the Microsurgical Training Program and in 1990 became the Director of the Surgical Training & Research Center at the same institution. In 1999 he was named clinical director of the Institute of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph Hospital and today , he serves as the clinical director of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS), one of the largest private group practices for aesthetic plastic surgery in Texas.
Dr. Ruiz-Razura was a member of the teaching staff of the Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program at St. Joseph Hospital for 17 years . Currently, he continues with his faculty appointment as professor of surgery in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He was a founding member and past president of the Society of Latin American Plastic Surgeons of the United States and Canada (SLAPS) and past treasurer of the Iberian Latin American Federation of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (FILACP) the largest organization of hispanic plastic surgeons in the world. For 15 years he was co-director of Operation San Jose, a charitable volunteer goodwill program sponsored by St Joseph Hospital Foundation to operate patients with cleft lip, cleft palate and facial deformities in Latin America. In addition, he has fully organized and directed an international clinical program to train plastic surgeons in reconstructive microsurgery . These international clinical courses offered in different hospitals during 15 years provided hands-on training to 89 plastic surgeons from 11 countries.
Dr. Ruiz-Razura is a member of the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons (HSPS), The Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC), fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) , fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (ASRM), the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery (WSRM), the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS) and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
Dr. Ruiz Razura has received multiple awards and recognitions for his many contributions in pioneering techniques in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, developing instrumentation and educating surgeons. He has published 5 books, 80 original articles in peer review journals, 29 surgical videos, 3 instrument patents and has made over 500 scientific presentations. Has been recognized in multiple ocassions by his residents & fellows, peers, nurses and patients for his dedication and passion to deliver the most comprehensive patient care. Has been interviewed by the news media on various ocassions when receiving awards from national and international societies for his humanitarian efforts to benefit the underprivileged patient in developing countries.
