Every woman that considers breast augmentation has her own personal reasons for doing so. For many women, having smaller breasts that may be disproportional to their body or sometimes having significant differences in the size of their breasts can make someone feel self conscious or embarrassed about their appearance. Breast augmentation can restore and boost self confidence by adding more fullness to the breast to even body proportion as well as correcting any size differences.
With age, changes in weight, and pregnancy, many women can lose size and shape to their breasts. Many women have substantial changes to their breasts after pregnancy and breast feeding. As the body prepares to nourish a child, milk glands in the breast swell and replace fatty tissue. After childbirth and breast feeding, these glands shrink leaving behind a skin “envelope” with little to fill it. Many times, the breast tissue is smaller than prior to pregnancy and they can also have variable amounts of “sagginess” or ptosis to the breast. Considering breast augmentation after having children is one of the best ways to restore and rejuvenation the breasts back to a more youthful, fuller, and and even “uplifted” appearance.
Breast augmentation is performed by Dr. Boynton on an outpatient basis. Saline breast implants or silicone gel implants are placed under the gland of the breast or under the muscle during the procedure. Dr. Boynton has extensive experience in breast augmentation and has developed a very scientific, technically, and advanced procedure that he utilizes for breast augmentation. During his initial examination of each patient, he incorporates a variety of scientific measurements that help determine a range of possible implant sizes. In the majority of cases, the implant is placed below the muscle as it is better for a number of reasons including a better shape between the breasts (cleavage area), better shape and a “natural slope” in the upper pole of the breasts, minimal problems with capsular contracture, something that can be a common complication of breast augmentation, as well as improved ability to perform accurate mammography. Dr. Boynton utilizes very small, cosmetically concealed incisions that also allow for rapid recovery. In certain cases, Dr. Boynton also uses a “dual- plane” augmentation mammoplasty technique, whereby the implant is under the muscle in the upper portion of the breast and under the gland in the lower portion. This allows some degree of improved “lift” to some saggy breasts and in some cases can obviate the need for a breast lift (mastopexy).
