Press Release
(AUSTIN) -- Plastic surgeon Charles W. Bailey, Jr., MD of Houston is the new president-elect of the Texas Medical Association, Americas largest state medical society.
Dr. Bailey will serve as president-elect for one year, at which time he will take the presidential reins during TexMed 2003, TMAs annual conference in April.
In his more than 30 years as a member of TMA, Dr. Bailey rose through the ranks serving the society in many roles. For four years he has been a member of TMAs Board of Trustees, including service on the groups executive committee. He also has worked with numerous TMA committees, and is a delegate to the American Medical Association. Dr. Bailey has held the office of president in various medical societies, including both the Texas and Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Harris County Medical Society, and the Houston Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Bailey began his career in Houston in 1973. Town & Country Magazine named him one of the top cosmetic surgeons in the United States, and he is listed in Best Doctors in America: Central Region. He also has taught medicine, including as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Neurobiology and Anatomy at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.
Although service in the medical community is important to Dr. Bailey, clearly his patients come first. "While my experience, board certifications and appointments have contributed to my success, it is the care and concern for my patients that remains my priority," he said.
He began to hone that philosophy as a medical student at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1967. He interned at Memorial Baptist Hospital in Houston, and did his residency in the citys Hermann Hospital under the auspices of the U.T. Medical School at Houston.
TMA, named Americas best medical society, represents more than 37,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 119 component county medical societies around the state. TMA's key objective is to improve the health of all Texans.
